The documentary Of fathers and sons, by Talal Derki, nominated for the Oscars
On Tuesday, January 22, appeared the nominations for the Academy Awards (AMPAS). Among the nominees for Best Documentary there are Of fathers and sons, directed by Talal Derki.
The Syrian director, who in a first moment the american administration denied his visa to fly to US to the Academny Awards, he can finally attend to the ceremony of the Oscars 91st edition, which will be held on February 24 of 2019.
The US administration has not given details about why the director Talal Derki’s visa has been denied at first. The executive producer of the film, Dan Cogan, said that US is unfortunately reluctant to give visas and citizens of the countries of the Muslim majority.
Talal Derki has been present at DocsBarcelona on several occasions. In the past 21st edition of the festival, in May 2018, Of fathers and sons was one of the great protagonists and, the same director, offered a Master Class “7 plans 7” in CCCB. In addition, last November 2018 the film was selected by DocsBarcelona del Mes, and in this way the film was released in more than 90 theaters in Spain and Chile.
In 2014 Talal Derki won the TV3 Award for Best Film at the 17th edition of the DocsBarcelona Festival with his film Return to Homs.
